Elwyn Creek Hot Springs

Hot Spring

A series of warm and hot springs on the both sides of Elwyn Creek featuring lovely surrounding meadows.

Around a 500-meter stretch at the beginning of Elwyn Creek, there are approximately 10 small hot and warm springs. These springs are situated between elevations of 1350 meters and 1450 meters. The location is situated above the timberline, and spotting the springs is not difficult. On the southwest side of Elwyn Creek, you can find a number of warm ponds due to the presence of extensive tufa deposits. There are also a few warm springs on the opposite side of the creek.

The water from these springs doesn't have any smell but has a subtle mineral flavor. It contains a significant amount of dissolved minerals, particularly bicarbonate, sodium, and calcium. The hottest water, which reaches about 36°C, emerges from a small vent located midway between the creek and the easternmost pool.

This area, found on the northwest side of Mt. Edziza, features picturesque meadows. The pools aren't extremely warm for bathing, but it's a great place for camping. Additionally, this location serves as a convenient starting point for exploring the unique volcanic landscapes and cinder cones found on the Big Raven Plateau on the northern and western sides of Mt. Edziza.
