Kinbasket Lake (Canoe River) Hot Springs

Hot Spring

This site lacks man-made structures due to flooding from Mica Dam. A new hole is dug every year, and the best time to visit is late winter or early spring.

Located near Kinbasket Lake, about 58 kilometers (36 miles) north of Valemount, British Columbia, Canoe River Hot Springs is a natural wonder that visitors drive directly to.

The hot springs consist of a series of cascading pools that the warm and mineral-rich waters of the Canoe River naturally feed. The pools' temperatures vary between 30 to 40 degrees Celsius (86 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit) and are surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery.

Due to the flooding caused by the Mica Dam, all man-made structures have been removed, and a new hole is dug every year. Early spring is the best time to visit and enjoy the springs before the run-off gets too high. Although the hot springs' water runs clear, the annual digging can make the water a little murky. However, many believe that the mud in the hot springs also contains healing properties, adding to the therapeutic benefits of the hot springs.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the stunning natural beauty of British Columbia, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the wilderness, at Canoe River Hot Springs. As visitors plan their trip, they should bring any necessary supplies and be prepared to pack out all trash and leave the area undisturbed to preserve the hot springs' natural beauty for future generations to enjoy.
