Nash Creek Hot Springs

Hot Spring

Remote springs featuring saunas and soaking tubs in the Yukon, 80km northeast of Mayo.

A good, solid 80km trek northwest of the village of Mayo is the remote Nash Creek Hot Springs, 12km upstream from Nash Creek's flow into Wind River. The springs aren't on the map covering this area - 106D/10 - but can be found at 64°33.1'N, 134°42.5'W. There are three possible ways to access these springs depending on the season or your personal means and endurance: a helicopter can be taken from Mayo and landed at the small, private airsrtrip at the springs; or for the hardy, snowmobile access during the winter or packhorses during the summer can be taken from the small community of Elsa to Mayo's west.

The springs coalesce into a small yet hot stream near the lower end of the airstrip on the south bank of Nash creek. Despite its remote location, this is not an entirely undeveloped destination: there's a small changing shack near the springs and even a sauna building should the springs themselves reveal themselves to be inadequate, plus cabins built by local guides. A wooden deck has also been constructed over the creek, with a soaking tub built under the deck's center large enough to accomodate six people.

As for the springs themselves, they feature bright green algae growing in the stream, providing clear and odourless water just perfect for a lengthy soak.
