South Redstone Hot Springs
South Redstone Hot Springs
Hot Spring
A large collection of springs close to the South Redstone River.
Approximately one kilometer south of the South Redstone River (63°24'N and 125°52'W, in the Dahadinni River map area) lies the South Redstone Hot Springs, a large system featuring two main sources. The largest of the two can be found in the north and sports a wide array of tufa deposits and springs covering a significant stretch of 300m by 200m. A series of terraces can be found formed by a steeply-walled mound of tufa, the hottest spring in this section of at least half a dozen. Slightly odoured water low in dissolved minerals fill a shallow 6m by 9m pool blanketed in spectacular green, orange, and yellow algae.
The southern spring system, located around 1.5km south of the main northern sources and also featuring extensive deposits of tufa, contains a smaller flow and cooler water than is typically found at the northern system, to the tune of 50°C.
