Toad Hot Springs
Hot Spring
A mineral deposit-rich ecosystem that attracts wildlife but is not for bathing.
Toad River Hot Springs are a unique and remote destination located in the Northern British Columbia region. These springs are not your typical hot springs with a pool and are instead a seep that attracts a wide range of wildlife due to the mineral deposits found in the area. The hot springs are located within the scenic Toad River valley of the Muskwa Foothills and are protected by the Toad River Hot Springs Provincial Park, which was established on June 29, 1999.
Accessing the Toad River Hot Springs is not easy, and visitors should be prepared for a hike or horseback ride as the river is not easily navigable by boat due to a recent slide. However, if you do have a river boat, you can get closer to the hot springs, but you will still need to hike approximately 1 kilometer. Despite the difficulty of getting there, the journey is worth it, as visitors are rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding wilderness and the chance to see wildlife such as moose that come to the area to supplement their diets with the mineral deposits.
The Toad River Hot Springs are not really suitable for bathing. However, the area is a popular destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers who come to observe the diverse array of wildlife that frequent the area. The hot springs are located within the Muskwa Kechika Management Area and are accessible by riverboat, helicopter, or an 8 km (4.9 mi) trail.
