West Cantung Hot Springs

Hot Spring

A large bathing pool and several smaller bathhouses close to the town of Tungsten in the Northwest Territories.

A short hop, skip, and a jump from the nearby town of Tungsten in the Northwest Territories, just 2km (1 mile) southeast and 300m (1000ft.) directly south of the Flat River, a mere 300km from the local airstrip, rests the West Cantung Hot Springs, accessed via road from the town. Tungsten itself sits on the border with the Yukon Territory and can be reached from Watson Lake by way of the Nahanni Range Road.

Several sources at a slope's base form the origin point for hot water flows created during construction of the nearby airstrip, when gravel and sand was moved over the vents and a large bathing pool built into the resulting fill, quickly becoming popular with Tungsten's residents and visitors. Even more sources north of this central pool have since been fitted with their own small bathhouses.
