Wilson Lake Warm Springs
Hot Spring
A hidden haven of natural beauty and serenity in the wilds near Little Wilson Lake.
Wilson Lake Warm Springs, located on the south slope of the valley, is a tranquil oasis. To reach it one must endure a bushy hike along the overgrown path on the south side of Little Wilson Lake. But for those willing to take the road less traveled, the journey to Wilson Lake Warm Springs is a rewarding one.
There are two routes to the Wilson Lake Forest Service campground, which is about 33 kilometers from the Highway. One can take the east Wilson Creek road just south of the Rosebery park sign from Rosebery, some kilometers north of New Denver on Highway 6. Or, one can choose the rougher path from Nakusp, taking the Wilson Lake turnoff on Highway 6, 6.3 kilometers south of Nakusp. To follow either of these routes, a forest service map is recommended.
As one makes their way up the Wilson Creek Forest Service Road, the scenery becomes increasingly breathtaking. Along the way, a cascading waterfall at the 28 km marker and opportunities for fly fishing along Fitzstubbs Creek provide a feast for the senses.
At the base of the towering 2350 m Mount Ferrie lies the serene Little Wilson Lake. This grassy campsite, well off the forest road, offers a peaceful escape for the avid fisherman. The lake is perfect for small boats and canoes, while hikers can explore old roads and trails along the lake shore.
For the more adventurous, Wilson Lake Warm Springs can serve as a base for a trip to the Hamling Lakes area. But for those seeking a quiet getaway, the warm springs themselves, located about 1 km east of Little Wilson Lake on the valley's south slope, offer a rejuvenating soak in the midst of untamed wilderness.
